The Downtown West Orange Alliance (DWOA) welcomed Program Officers from Main Street America in October for two full days of focus groups and workshops centered on the future of our downtown corridor.

Residents, business owners, property owners, community partners, township staff, and elected officials all took part in thoughtful conversations about the opportunities and challenges facing Downtown West Orange. The sessions covered everything from shifting consumer habits to storefront needs, pedestrian life, events, redevelopment, and the types of businesses people want to see here.

This work is part of a larger effort sponsored by Main Street New Jersey, which is supporting the development of a comprehensive Transformation Strategy for Downtown WO. Using insights from the focus groups, regional consumer and business data, and responses from our recent online survey, the strategy will map out potential and underutilized market opportunities—across retail, dining, entertainment, housing, and public space.

The final report and recommendations will be delivered in mid-December 2025, giving the community a clear roadmap for the next phase of downtown revitalization.
