Downtown West Orange has a new favorite landmark. Local artist Monet Sheard (@monet_designz) has completed her mural, “Imagine, Imagination Alley,” bringing a bold, joyful burst of color to the alley beside Supreme Bakery at 40 Main Street, in St. Mark’s Square.
The piece finishes the multi-year activation of the alley and has already become a go-to location for shoppers and those looking for an Instagrammable moment. The mural’s vibrant shapes, movement, and playful energy connect naturally with the recently installed Sky Mural just above, echoing its themes of flowers, plants, and butterflies while adding a fresh layer of personality to the corridor.
Sheard—whose work can be seen at Newark Liberty International Airport’s Terminal A and throughout the region—is known for transforming everyday spaces into welcoming, imaginative environments. Her Downtown WO mural does exactly that, turning what was once a plain wall into a bright place to pause, wander, and take a photo.
The project was made possible through a grant from Main Street New Jersey, whose support helps bring public art and community-centered improvements to Downtown West Orange.
This mural followed a competitive open call that drew more than a dozen submissions from artists across New Jersey. That process has given Downtown West Orange a growing roster of talented creators to tap for future public art initiatives.
The mural is now complete, and the alley is open—stop by, take a look, and soak in a little imagination.
