Mayor Robert Parisi attended his last Township Council meeting this past Tuesday. Council President/Mayor-Elect Susan McCartney read a proclamation at the last council meeting of 2022 declaring December 31st Mayor Robert Parisi Day in West Orange. It highlighted Parisi’s many accomplishments as both Councilman and Mayor. He served a combined total of 24 years as an elected official. Parisi served the last 12 years as mayor but was first elected as a councilman in 1998.
Mayor Parisi expressed his appreciation in brief remarks following words or gratitude from all the Council members, Business Administrator/CFO John Gross, Downtown West Orange Alliance Executive Director Megan Brill and Township Attorney Richard Trenk. Gross also presented Mayor-Elect Susan McCartney with a plaque of appreciation honoring her 20 years of service on the Township Council. She will become West Orange’s first woman Mayor in the town’s 160-year history when she is sworn in on January 2, 2023.
It was also Councilwoman Cindy Matute-Brown’s last meeting. Councilwomen-Elect Susan Scarpa and Asmeret Ghebremichael will also be sworn at the ceremony at the Wilshire Grand Hotel at 350 Pleasant Valley Way at 2 p.m. on January 2, 2023.
